We are only a few weeks from Purim. As mentioned above, we have 4 observances that we are commanded to keep as we prepare our souls for Purim.
The Four Mitzvot of Purim
-
Reading the Megillah (Kriat Megillah): We are obligated to hear the reading of the Megillah. Come and join us at shul Monday evening, March 2nd. We will read and then discuss this x-rated content!
-
Sending Food Gifts (Mishloach Manot): To increase joy within our community, we have a tradition to share foods (usually of at least 2-3 kinds) amongst our friends. Try it – fun and gratifying. Candies, baked goods, fruit…
-
Gifts to the Poor (Matanot La’evyonim): Usually this mitzvah is to ensure that everyone can fulfill their needs to prepare for Pesach. This year we have started an underwear campaign. See above.
-
Festive Meal (Se’udat Purim): A seudah is a meal, a joyful meal perhaps more often associated with Shabbat. Be happy, it’s Adar! Hamantaschen for dessert?
Shavua Tov.
