Rabbi Ilana Krygier Lapides
Kolot Mayim welcomed Rabbi Ilana this summer when she joined Kolot Mayim Reform Congregation as our Rabbi. Rabbi Ilana is a born-and-raised Calgarian, a first-generation Canadian, and the granddaughter of four Holocaust Survivors.
As a child, she attended the Yiddish-centered I.L. Peretz School and moved on to the Talmud Torah in her teens. Ilana received a degree with specialization in English and Philosophy from the University of Alberta and a Diploma in Yiddish Instruction from Bar Ilan University in Tel Aviv.
Rabbi Ilana has a broad spectrum of life time experience in the Jewish Community. She has been the Adult and Senior Program Director at the Calgary JCC, Regional Director of NWC BBYO and Jewish Students’ Hillel. An Educator at Temple B’nai Tikvah, and the Director of Education for the Holocaust and Human Rights Department for Calgary Jewish Federation and a Yiddish and Nursery School teacher at the Calgary Jewish Academy,
Rabbi Ilana has volunteered by sitting on the executive of various Boards, including Camp BB Riback, the JCC in Calgary, the North West Canada chapter of the B’nai Brith Youth Organization Regional Parent Board, and serving lunches at the Calgary Drop-In Centre.
Rabbi Ilana received her S’micha with the Jewish Spiritual Leaders Institute (JSLI) out of New York in December 2020.
She most recently acted as the Jewish Community Chaplain for Jewish Family Services in Calgary and served the Beth Tzedec Conservative Congregation in Calgary as Assistant Rabbi.
Rabbi Ilana has three grown children and lives with her husband, David, and a very pampered dog. She loves to read, sing, play piano, tell bad jokes, and is attempting with more enthusiasm than success to master the baritone ukulele.
It has been her lifelong dream to be a spiritual leader and she is grateful to be a part of the Kolot Mayim family and we are grateful to have her.
