Some of you asked me to post the recording of the Moroccan Cantor singing the Shir HaYam: שירת הים – מילים, ביצועים, פירושים ותווים | אתר הפיוט והתפילה
And, speaking of links, here is my link to the Spiritually Speaking column in The Times Colonist that was printed this past Shabbat: https://www.timescolonist.com/blogs/spiritually-speaking/finding-your-own-faith-can-be-an-inspiration-to-the-faithful-4959224
Kolot Mayim is busy these weeks with B’nei Mitzvah classes, Introduction to Judaism, Conversion, and Torah Trop classes. Some of our members are also taking advantage of classes that are offered online from afar.
At the same time, I get inquiries every week from people affiliated and not yet affiliated with KM, about all manner of possible connections. Just this week I heard from the following: One couple is asking about the possibility of my conducting their wedding; one mother inquiring about a Bar Mitzvah for her son next year; someone living in Prince Rupert wanting to connect for Tu B’Shevat and hopefully for other services and holidays. Babies being born, people moving, someone wanting to learn more about Jewish prayer, someone wanting to complete her funeral/burial plan; lots of emails about Seder planning, and lots of emails regarding the Chevra Kadisha in Victoria as we try to find sources for face shields, and N95 masks and exchange information about new sources for burial shrouds; Board reports, reports from family members about sick or healing husbands, wives, children, mishaberachs needed; Planning of service, Torah readings; membership inquiries; questions from Jewish Family Services; reports about our lecture series, both past and upcoming; responses from members in the Conversion programme about academic papers I sent them to review; discussion about upcoming presentations for that same class; sending out Power Point for Torah trop class and then feedback in advance of the class. All these emails – and so many more – were taken just from Tuesday through Friday inclusive.
All this to say we are active, growing and reaching Jews across British Columbia and beyond. I am so grateful to be in a community of people who want to engage in learning, and acts of kindness and who want to bring that learning and kindness forward into our larger Jewish community. And who want to celebrate with us all.
